As I sit here with a friend who is helping me set up this blog, the shadows of the vultures pass
over the house and across our deck. I t feels a bit ominous, but I was so excited to see them return this spring.
Last year someone I know got very excited while telling me that the birds migrate. She was thrilled to see them return in the spring. I had never had any positive feelings for the ugly avians, although I recognize
their importance to the ecology. But love them? I don't think so. Nevertheless, this spring I
found myself greeting them with excitement when I first saw a pair sailing around our house.
I think they nest very near, and I hope this year to find out where. But I do draw the line
at having them perch on the railing of our deck as they did one day last year!
